Mr. Vinod “Vin” Gupta is a businessman who has managed to build a multi-billion business empire. Vinod Gupta is a humble individual who has been an inspiration to those interested in making a living to help their families and the community. He came from a poor background, in a small village in the remote regions of India, but now is one of the wealthiest people in the world. He was born in 1946 and attended the local school till 1962. In 1967 he graduated with a degree in Agricultural Engineering. He is also a holder of an MBA from the University of Nebraska.
Vinod Gupta established his first business venture in 1972 known as Business Research Services and American Business List. It became a publicly traded company in 1993 and by 1994 the revenues reached $75 million. By1997 had employed over 1,500 employees and the revenues had reached $108 million. The company expanded rapidly and he renamed it to InfoUSA and later it became Infogroup. IN 2010 he sold the business at $680 million. Currently, Vin Gupta is a renowned entrepreneur in India and even the USA.
He has made numerous donations to support learning institution in the US and also in India. In 1990’s he made a donation to the Indian Institute of Technology of $2 million and now the institution has grown to offer masters program to students. The donation has also contributed to making the institution the top institution in research in India. Vinod Gupta made another donation of $2 million to the University of Nebraska for the development of business management curriculum and established a scholarship program of $500,000. Vin has also shown great support for women education. He donated funds for the establishment of a women’s polytechnic. It was in the efforts of making education accessible to the women. the school has offered them the opportunity to transform their lives using education. In other local schools, he has offered buses for transporting girls to school.
